After iPhones, this will be the second product from the Cupertino giant to be mass-produced in India. The report claims that the made-in-India AirPods will be sold globally. Apart from Apple, Xiaomi also recently started making its TWS earbuds in India at the Optiemus Electronics plant in Noida.
In December 2022, Apple’s AirPods led the global TWS market with about 36%, reports research firm Canalys. The Cupertino-based tech giant was followed by Samsung with 7.5%, Xiaomi with 4.4%, Boat with 4% and Oppo with 3%.
Apple starts producing iPhone 15 in India
Apple has also started manufacturing its iPhone 15 models in India. The upcoming smartphone series is expected to launch next month. Apple’s effort to produce iPhone 15 in Foxconn’s Tamil Nadu plant will further narrow the company’s gap between its India operations and its main manufacturing plant in China.
The Foxconn unit in Sriperumbudur is preparing to deliver the newest devices within weeks after they start shipping from factories in China. Apple is reportedly planning to increase the volume of new iPhones coming from India quickly.
iPhone 15 models are expected to arrive with major upgrades to the camera system. Meanwhile, the Pro models are likely to be powered by an improved 3nm Bionic A16 chipset.
In April, Apple opened its first retail stores in India. The company is now seeing the fast-growing Indian market as a retail opportunity. Apple also considers the country an important production base for its gadgets in the longer term. In June, iPhone sales in India reached a new high as shipments grew by double digits. However, Apple hasn’t disclosed the exact numbers.
