Independence Day order to J&K officials: Selfies with flag as DP | India News

SRINAGAR: The J&K administration has directed all government officials to use selfies with images of “Jhanda (flag), Mitti (soil) and Diya (earthen lamp)” as display pictures (DPs) on their social media handles ahead of August 15 and urged people to join the Centre’s Meri Mitti Mera Desh campaign this Independence Day.

The decision was taken Sunday at a meeting chaired by the Union territory’s chief secretary, Arun Kumar Mehta, to review August 15 arrangements and was part of the Meri Mitti campaign announced by PM Narendra Modi in his Mann Ki Baat radio programme.
“All government officers and the public at large will hoist the Tricolour over their houses. However, it should be ensured that the flag is hoisted in an appropriate and befitting manner, having due regard to the Flag Code,” an official order states.

The directive applies to all government buildings, schools, colleges and universities. These would also be decorated with special lights.
Officials should upload videos and confirm compliance. “All should share videos with respective divisional commissioners,” the order says.

“No government employee shall avail leave on Independence Day 2023, except under exceptional circumstances. All employees will participate in Independence Day celebrations,” the order reads.
In the meeting, the urban development and panchayati raj officials were asked to ensure participation of all public representatives of these bodies in the celebrations.
“Independence Day speeches should include initiatives of the government under digital J&K, corruption-free J&K, Swacchhta, Nasha Mukht Bharat, Jan Bhagidari…..Aap ki Zameen Aap ki Nigrani,” the order reads.
All departments have been asked to inaugurate projects executed over the past year and lay foundations for key plans until Independence Day. “All departments should make short videos of two-to-three minutes highlighting important achievements and furnish the same to the information department for wide publicity,” the order reads.
