Govt makes amendment in recruitment of sanitation workers | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: Days after agreeing to the demand of Valmiki community to give preference to its members in recruitment of sanitation workers, the state government on Thursday amended the Rajasthan Municipal (Sweepers Service) Rules, 2012. The department of local self-governance has issued the notification of amendment of the related Rules 2023.
Through the amendment, the provision of practical examination has been added, besides an interview, under Rule 9. Sanitation workers across the state went on strike for four days over this demand in April and on a one day strike earlier this week.
Now, the recruitment would be done by the local self-governance department as per the new provisions and ensuring compliance of the guidelines issued by the state government by giving priority to the Valmiki Samaj families involved in traditional cleaning work with one year experience, interview and practical test. In the budget 2023-24, chief minister Ashok Gehlot had announced jobs for 30,000 sanitation workers, in view of which 13,184 posts in 176 urban bodies were to be filled in the first phase.
A revised notification for these posts would be issued on Friday.
