‘Gehlot’s son routed crores to benami biz through shell firm’ | Jaipur News

JAIPUR: BJP Rajya Sabha MP Kirori Lal Meena Thursday accused Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s son Vaibhav Gehlot and daughter-in-law Himanshi Gehlot of carrying out benami businesses worth thousands of crores by routing funds into some marquee hotels from investments in Mauritius and London.
Meena named Fairmont in Jaipur, Raffles and Taj Aravali in Udaipur, and Nimri Palace in Mount Abu. He said he had lodged an FIR two weeks ago at Amer police station in Jaipur against the alleged benami investments, which was denied by senior police officers. “I will present evidence about these transactions to the Enforcement Directorate on Friday,” Meena said at a news conference here. Vaibhav dismissed Meena’s claims as “baseless, 10-year-old allegations”. “This is nothing but the usual tactic of BJP to plant these stories before elections. Earlier, they had gone to court with these allegations but nothing happened,” Vaibhav said.
Meena alleged a London-based doctor from Jodhpur had a shell company – Sivnar Holdings Ltd – registered in Mauritius by Minerva Holding Ltd, which is named in the Panama Papers.
The shell company invested around Rs 100 crore in Fairmont hotel, which was laundered through Sunlight Car Rental Services Pvt Ltd. He said he would reveal the doctor’s name to ED.
“Fairmont is owned by Triton Hotel and Resort Pvt Ltd. Vaibhav Gehlot invested Rs 96.75 crore through benami transactions in the name of shell company Sivnar Holdings Ltd, which holds 50% share in Fairmont,” he said.
“The ownership document of Fairmont shows that 50% shares are held by one Ratan Kant Sharma and his wife Juhi Sharma and the rest by Sivnar Holdings,” Meena said, alleging that Vaibhav Gehlot had direct links with Sharma. “Gehlot government allotted land to Fairmont during his tenure. Now, fake and false bills are produced under travelling expenses by Fairmont hotel and paid to Sunlight Car Rental Services, owned by Vaibhav and Himanshi Gehlot who are also its directors,” he alleged.
“Gehlot had given permission to construct the Fairmont. During his government, JDA approved the site plan on August 21, 2009, which was done with malafide intent by Gehlot to bring in his share of 50% in the hotel,” he alleged.
“Raffles hotel was built on a land adjacent to Udai Sagar Lake in Udaipur with Gehlot’s political patronage. For this, about eight hectares of land was grabbed from an Adivasi person. Two hectares of this land was illegally converted for construction work and six for agricultural purposes,” he alleged.
