BARAN: A Congress leader in Baran district of Rajasthan was critically injured on Wednesday in an alleged shooting by unidentified assailants during a land dispute. The incident occurred on Talawara road within the jurisdiction of Baran city police station.
Gourav Sharma (43), the president of Congress’ Baran city unit and a resident of Tel Factory area, was visiting a plot on Talawara road when a scuffle broke out between him and one Raju, also known as Rajendra Meena. During the altercation, unidentified assailants shot Sharma in the head before fleeing the scene, deputy superintendent of police Rajendra Meena said.
Sharma has been admitted to a hospital in Kota, where his condition is reported to be critical.
The primary motive behind the attack appears to be a land dispute, as per initial findings.
The police are currently making efforts to locate the accused involved in the incident, the DSP said.
Superintendent of police Raj Kumar, who visited the location of the shooting, told reporters that a passerby discovered the injured Congress leader lying on the roadside and promptly rushed him to a local hospital. Following initial treatment, Sharma was referred to Kota for further medical attention.
Authorities are currently investigating whether Sharma had any personal enmity that could have contributed to the attack, the SP said.
